Farmers in Rotorua, Taupo and Whakatane face emergency milk disposal after a major disruption to the gas pipeline supply network in the North Island yesterday. The line, which links the Maui gas field to the upper North Island, closed yesterday morning after gas began escaping in north Taranaki. The Gas Industry Company said there had been a notice of "immediate curtailment" of gas use by all consumers other than residential customers in the areas north of King Country and in the Bay of Plenty.

TAUPO, 21 Sept. - Ireland veteran Ronan O'Gara has played down speculation he will retire at the end of his country's Rugby World Cup 2011 campaign. The 34-year-old Munster fly half, who came off the bench on Saturday to kick two late penalties in the 15-6 Pool C win over Tri Nations champion Australia, was close to tears after the momentous victory. "It's massive; this is it for us. I'm done with Ireland in a few weeks," he told a television interviewer.

TAUPO, 19 Sept. - In an ominous warning for Ireland's Pool C opponents, backs coach Alan Gaffney said the men in green would only get better after their shock win over Australia. Gaffney also said he believed the Wallabies did not show the Irish enough respect heading into Saturday's Rugby World Cup 2011 match in Auckland, won 15-6 by his team.

TAUPO, 14 Sept. - Wales believe an extra four days of rest between matches will re-energise them for Sunday's clash with a physical Samoan team, who will be playing their second match in four days. That is the opinion of Wales defensive coach Shaun Edwards, who would have been buoyed ahead of the Pool D game at Hamilton's Waikato Stadium also by news that Samoa picked up several injuries in Wednesday's 49-12 victory over Namibia.
