Southland Buskers Festival 2012
The annual Southland Buskers' Festival will take place in Invercargill in February.
Eight international acts from the World Buskers' Festival in Christchurch will perform in over 40 outdoor street shows and two evening shows; in Queens Park, at Wachner Place in the inner city, at the Farmers Market at Southland Boys' High School and for the late-night shows at Barluca. (Late night shows R18).
Performers include:
Jack Dagger, the self-proclaimed American King of Fling who has found fame and fortune from throwing knives and tomahawks and cracking whips.
Portuguese clown Pedro Tochas, who is a regular street performer but also stars on a top Portuguese TV comedy series.
Canadian Alex Martin and his ‘Million Dollar Eyebrows’ that have played more than a 1000 show around the world.
USA # 1- The World Tour of Awesome. A duo with too much Yankee Doodle who are just too funny to pass up.
The Daredevil Chicken Club. Returning to the festival after winning the critic’s choice award at the 2010 World Buskers Festival in Christchurch.
UK dance partners Yvonne and Barry a.k.a. Stickelback Plasticus give a whole new meaning to ballroom dancing - not to mention falling in lust from across a crowded room.
Canadian duo Street Circus will charm you with their high energy, sense of fun and great skills.
Shay Horay a.k.a. Keith Preene all the way from Christchurch via Timaru is the MC extraordinaire for our night time Busker Comedy Club shows.
Plus a local statue performance featuring Alice in Wonderland.
Performers look forward to you rewarding them with a donation in their hat, so remember to bring along some cash to the performance sites.

WHK’s Michael Lee and a few of his mates are planning a 470km cycle
journey around six of Southland and Otago’s great lakes in February 2012
to raise funds for Southland’s Foundation for Youth Development (FYD).
The
470km/5 day journey will see cyclists leaving from Riverton on 2
February and travelling to Manapouri, Garston, Clyde (via Nevis) and
Hawea before finishing in Queenstown five days later on Waitangi Day (6
February). Entries are welcome for the whole journey or sections of the
journey.
